Habitat: Native to shaded, slow-moving freshwater streams and rivers of Sri Lanka; typically found in areas with dense aquatic vegetation and leaf litter
Minimum Tank Size: 15 gallons (57 liters), preferably 20+ gallons for a school
Ideal Temperature: 73–81°F (23–27°C)
pH Range: 6.0–7.5
Water Hardness: 4–15 dGH (soft to moderately hard)
Temperament: Peaceful and social; thrives in groups of 6 or more; males may show minor displays of aggression during breeding but are generally community-safe
Omnivorous: Yes — accepts a variety of foods including high-quality flakes, pellets, and live or frozen treats such as daphnia, brine shrimp, and bloodworms. Vegetable matter (like blanched spinach or spirulina) is beneficial.
